Dr Jasmine Yumori gave an introduction to Interprofessional Education (IPE) 6000 with the help of Katy Avila to the second year student pharmacists. Also in attendance were Dr Ying Huang and Dr Sam Shimomura who are serving as IPE Liaisons from the College of Pharmacy. IPE 6000 builds on knowledge and skills gained in IPE 5000 and IPE 5100 and focuses on TeamSTEPPS concepts of team structure, situation monitoring, communications, leadership and mutual support. The course emphasizes individual and collaborative learning activities and projects. WesternU is a leader in Interprofessional Education and IPE training is included throughout the curriculum of all of the professions on campus.
Following, convocation, the College of Pharmacy held its 21st annual White Coat Ceremony. This year, the California Pharmacist Association sponsored the event and was represented by Jon R. Roth, CAE, CEO of CPhA who also served as the keynote speaker. The Pledge of Commitment was administered by Arbi Nazarian, PhD and the Pharmacist Oath by Janice Hoffman, PharmD. Dean Robinson served as the Master of Ceremony and gave the closing remarks. Mark Iannuzzo, Assistant Dean, Student Affairs, for the College of Pharmacy planned and organized the very successful program.
On August 12, 2017, WesternU open the academic year with the Presidential Inauguration of Daniel Wilson and Convocation at the Fairplex in Pomona. Music for the program was provided by the Pasadena Scottish Pipes and Drums.
Thursday, August 10, 2017 was the APhA-ASP CPhA's turn to present their chapter. They provided a pad thai lunch and many nice prizes at the end including a sweat shirt pictured above.
On Wednesday, August 9, 2017, the NCPA Student Chapter provided a taco lunch and then a presentation about their organization. They also organized the CPR course the same afternoon.
Orientation Week for the WesternU Class of 2021 started on August 7, 2017. The professional pharmacy association chapters presented information on their activities during the Noon hours and provided lunch. On Tuesday, August 8, 2017, the CSHP/ASHP chapter provided hamburgers from In-N-Out and described their student chapter and upcoming events.
