Reflection #1 Vivian Chu, PharmD Candidate 2020
Brian Kawahara who is a pharmacist and a member of CSHP, came to speak to us about CSHP membership and future of pharmacy. We watched a video on what pharmacists have issues with and how we can begin to solve it. Additionally, we learned about providership and how pharmacists are currently not being paid to be providers but this will likely change in the future. Dr. Kawahara educated us on how a majority of senators and physicians, more than 50% to be more precise, support pharmacists in becoming providers. He told us that now is the right time to be in pharmacy school because of all changes that are about to happen. Moreover, it is important for us as future pharmacists to continue to advocate for this change as a majority of the current pharmacist community remains stagnant. Overall, he was very passionate and encouraging and it was definitely very refreshing to be motivated to do more for pharmacy.
