Attended by physicians , pharmacists and other healthcare professionals, it was a great learning experience for preparing to become board certified in medicine or pharmacy. Dr. Sam Shimomura is on the Planning Committee for the Intensive Course in Geriatric Pharmacy and Medicine and WesternU provides up to 37 hours of continuing education credit for the pharmacists in attendance.
The highlights of the course were:
Lectures and Discussions: More than 30 case based presentations, each followed by floor discussions were offered.
Interactive PDF syllabus: Nearly 3000 pages of reading materials were provided.
Interactive Sessions: Each afternoon featured a small group interactive sessions that focused on the "how to " of clinical procedures.
Board Review Sessions.
Board review sessions were offered for both physicians and pharmacists.
Forty-one UCLA based faculty along with 22 guest faculty gave lectures and/or presentations. WesternU faculty members giving presentations were Cynthia Jackevicius, PharmD, MSc, FCSHP, FAHA, BCPS ( AQ Cardiology) and Janice Hoffman, PharmD, CGP.
