Reflection #1: Elbert Phang, PharmD Candidate 2020
Without much knowledge of the outside world of retail pharmacy, Dr. Manisha Patel worked for approximately 17 years at CVS Pharmacy. Little did she know, the world of pharmacy is a small world and just by networking alone, she was able to create an image that portrays her as a competent pharmacist that is not only approachable and adaptable to her environment, but is a great person to work with that would be good for multiple team dynamics. Afraid and anxious of competition in the pharmaceutical field, she finally decided to resign from her position to pursue a different career in pharmacy. After a couple of weeks of being unemployed, she was miraculously contacted by multiple facilities for a job opportunity and decided on Central Drugs Compounding Pharmacy. Unlike the retail settings, compoundingpharmacy regulations are much more strict, especially ever since January 1st of 2017 where they implemented new regulations and policies with the development of compounding drugs that are more specific to patients. Central Drugs Compounding mainly focuses on compounding hormones that assist with anti-aging and many others.
Reflection #2: Ja In Park, PharmD Candidate 2020
She first started in retail pharmacy and shortly she became a PIC of another store. Few years later, she was promoted to be a supervisor. She is also involved with IPA (Indian Pharmacist Association) serving as a chairman now. After 17 years with CVS, she resigned and decided to try something new. She is now working at the Central Drug pharmacy. They recently started compounding IV products and now working to become the outsourcing center. One of the factors to make her so successful was being curious and being curious about the people she worked with. Then, she would find out each person’s specialty and what they are good at, which allowed her to designate specific work to them. She highly encouraged to read as much as possible. It helps to expand our minds and our horizon. Also, another key point she emphasized was to not shy away from challenges and opportunities.
