Reflection #1: Joonsun Nam, PharmD Candidate 2019
The second event of Match me residency education serious was held on October 6, 2015. Dr.Chan emphasize five crucial factors for preparing for residences. The first factor is grade. Dr. Chan mentioned that getting good grades is also important, but balancing with other factors is the most important thing we need to focus on. The second factor is an extracurricular activity. Extracurricular activity provides a great chance to improve the leadership skill, team work, and written and oral communication. Also, he emphasized that updating documentation in detail regularly is essential step we need to prepare for residency. The third factor is leadership and it is the most emphasized attribute sought by residencies, and it gives the chance to improve the time management skills and independence. The fourth factor is Research/formal presentation, and he mentioned that it is most likely the weakest area for most residency applicants so that we need to focus on. The last factor is work experience that can help to develop specific skills from the unique work experience. It was my second time to learn about the residency, and I was able to deeper understanding about the residency. I learned the factors that I need to focus on for residency, and I feel like applying residency is very challenging, but also very valuable. I am not sure yet if I want to apply for residency or not, but it was a meaningful time that I can evaluate myself and realized my weakest factor which I need to improve. I will keep in mind five crucial factors such as pharmacy knowledge, leadership, extracurricular activities, work experience, and research, and I will try to prepare myself as a good candidate.
