C.U.R.E.S will make it easier for authorized physicians and pharmacists to quickly review controlled substances for each patient. It will help physicians, pharmacists, and other medical professionals track any suspicious activities, what drugs a patient have already received before and deciding whether to authorize additional medications. C.U.R.E.S is a highly beneficial online database that will help reduce drug trafficking, controlled substance abuse, doctor shopping, and polypharmacies.
Currently, only 17% of California pharmacists are signed up for the C.U.R.E.S program. Some chain pharmacies such as Walgreens, Rite-Aid and Sav-On are requiring their pharmacists to enroll in the program. California is pushing all pharmacists to sign up because this system will track the activity of all controlled substances, which will help decrease prescription drug abuse. There is a Senate bill 809 (SB 809) that will mandate all pharmacists to sign up for C.U.R.E.S by January 1, 2016.
